Wierd noise when flooring the pedal

I everyone,

I have a manual 97 Audi A3 and there is something that I would like to ask. When I am in 1st gear and a let go of the clutch a little bit and slam on the gas pedal to burn out I get this wierd noise on both sides of the front tires. Is this normal or does anyone else noticed this? I thought maybe that it might be some type of fail safe mechanism like ABS, but I am not sure. It sounds like a small grinding or like something is adjusting the torque of the rotation of the tires. I have never purchased a Audi before as well as a manual. If someone could help me out with an explanation it would be apprecitated.

Thanks in Advance

It could be that you have the Traction Control System (TCS) which uses the ABS sensors in reverse to stop the wheels spinning when you give them too much power or the road surface is slippery - I guess this would sound a bit like the ABS operating...
