dfrost deffinatly has a point & so does panzrwagn. But not everyone has the extra cash to just buy a beater. dfrost after 40yrs in Denver and spending plenty of time on the slops I believe I will go with your suggestions. Here is Bozeman we had snow today, not sticking yet but the mountains are all getting very white.

Thing is - unless you live above 10,000 feet, there's rarely snow on the ground in Denver. Maybe 3-5 days a year. Global warming!

True on the snow in Denver thing. I grew up in Colorado Springs but spent a winter in Leadville, which is over 10k feet. There was snow on the ground permanently and I had a 24 mile commute over a mountain pass into Copper Mountain every day. Most of the time I took a shuttle, but I drove many times too. Not once did I get stuck, and I remember driving in pure white-out conditions where you drove the road in your mind, and hoped for the best.

It is about the driver too, but the tire definitely helps. Unfortunately, every accident I've been involved in had me at a stop and hit from behind, so beaware of the other driver's out there. They're the one's who are out to kill you.

I agree with you all. Never had to buy winter specific tires before but had just heard about the winters here in MT and thought why not be safe. Shock to me when I woke up this morning and there was 3 inches of snow on the ground and it has been snowing all day. October 6 and winter is early. Oh I wouls also like to add I'm only 75 miles away from West Yellowstone Park
