**Dealer is charging me $250 for wheel bearing & $750 for throw bearing**
are these prices fair? I told them to just to the throw bearing for $750ish because I thought I might be able to do the wheel bearing myself. are wheel bearings do-able for a newbie?

Depends on whether you have a B5 or B6, the B6 has a bolt in hub thats easy to replace, the B5 is a press fit design which is MUCH harder un-less you have a hydraulic press.

$250 to $200 for a wheel bearing is about right at a dealer or a private place.

Was wondering about the wheel bearing myself, think I need to have one changed. Figures it's press in.

Great tip. If I can find anyone that stocks the bearing tomorrow, think I'll just go ahead and change it. Couldn't figure out why the front axle bolts were different when I swapped cv joints last weekend, but after looking at the kits online, I can see they probably changed one of the bearings already.
