ask them if there is synthetic oil on the car originally, if it is then the dealer is right, if its regular oil then you are right

All new A4's come with synthetic from factory now. Synthetic lasts a lot longer than dyno oil. You can go 10K on one change (though I usually go around 7K - I do my own tho)

Yes you can go that long if its synthetic. With our AMSOIL, you can go 25k or 1 year. They are using the same type of standards, just lower.

The manufacture recommends 10,000 miles cause it comes out of their pocket. Stick to your regular oil changes. Since your car is a turbo, the oil tends to break down faster so stick with the 5000 mile oil changes. You will have to pay out of your pocket for the oil changes in between the "free maintenece" Oh and another thing, The 1.8t doesnt come with synthetic from the factory. However you can request to have your oil replaced with genuine factory Audi synthetic oil but you'll be charged the difference.

Wrong my friend. The 1.8t has indeed come with synthetic from the factory since 2001. The free regular maintence, however, is dino oil unless you request otherwise and pay for it. Sounds stupid I know, but thats what they do. Dealers do this to save money.
