Default ’03 A4 1.8T Quattro upgrades

Just got my sliver A4 1.8T Quattro on October 2003 and love it! So far, I've put in the K&N panel filter and just a couple of days ago, had the APR computer program downloaded via direct port. The APR chip definately makes the car feel more powerful.

I was just wondering if anyone knows what type of injectors are installed in the APR Stage 1+. I would like to know if they are stock TT injectors, and how many CC's per hour they are. If anyone knows, let me know, please.

Another upgrade I was interested in is the unorthodox pulley set. Are they worth the money?

Lastly, I wanted to test how good the car lauches from a stop with the AWD once, so I tried lauching the car from about 4000 RPM, but bogged the engine (This was before I upgraded the car). I then successfully launched it from 5000 RPM, but noticed the clutch slipped. The clutch was temporarily glazed from it and I won't do it again with the stock clutch and flywheel. Is it possible to get a good launch without bogging the motor and without glazing the clutch, or will the clutch have to be upgraded as well?

If anyonehas any answers to these questions, it would be greatly appreciated.

Im not completely sure about the 2003s but the earlyer pully sets are just the crank pully I think youd probly only free up a few horse power maybe not even enough to notice

And if you wanna do 5k launches your stock clutch isnt ganna like it too much also neuspeed has a new engine mount for the newer 1.8t which you might want to get I think I saw one on greedspeed.com or a4stuff.com theres another site thats has good parts that are real cheap that Brrman showed me but I lost the link

I have an auto but my buddy graciously let me beat the **** out of his manual A4 and What I found is that even with an aftermarket clutch its either bog er boil in the A4 (more bog than boil with Quattro though)

As for the TT injector question Ive been wondering if they would work myself but I figured youd probly need to have the fuel map in your software upgraded to work right, But maybe someone else knows for sure?

Thanks for the info, guys.

I never thought about slipping the clutch. That sounds like it'll work, but I was wondering, will it still end up glazing the clutch if I slip it? Just wanna be sure before I take it to the track.

As far as the injectors, I still can't find anything on the web. I think the stock injectors are the top feed ones, right? If I'm not mistaken, most aftermarket injectors are top feed as well, so I don't need an aftermarket fuel rail. But the whole reason I wanted to know, is because APR sells their injectors WITH the chip as a package (Stage 1+). I don't think I can get it seperately since I already have the chip (Stage 1), so I thought I could find a cost effective way of putting on another manufacture brand of injectors with the same specs at a later date when I get more money to burn, lol.

It does make sense that the map might be different for the bigger injectors, since APR sells the injectors with the chip as a package only, but APR claims you can totally upgrade from the bottom once you have the chip. So, if anything, I can go backand upgrade the maps if I have to. APR also recommends putting on their exhaust system before running the bigger injectors, so it'll be a while before I get them.

you have to make a choice between slipping and dropping.

you can drop it without the bog with enough expirience but every time you drop it, it send a shock through the whole drivetrain which is not good at all.

or you can slip it and fry the clutch just a bit every time you do it.

and since fixing the drivetrain is WAY more expensive than a clutch the choice is pretty obvious (at least to me)

and what kind track are you planning on taking your car to?

Thanks again for the advice. I did choose to slightly slip the clutch on launch as today was the track event I attended, but it was a road course which did not depend on hard launching from the start anyway.

Yup, today I attended a track event sponsered by JN Auto Group At Hawaii International Raceway Park on the Island of Oahu. I was invited as an Audi driver to go to this one of three day event which included cars from Chevy, Mazda, Lotus, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati, and of course, Audi. There were also professional racercar drivers there, such as Ivan Capelli, a Maserati driving instructor and former Formula 1 racecar driver from Italy, Michael Galati, a factory Audi racercar driver, also originally from Italy, James Minneker, a part of the General Motors High Performance Division, and Doc Bundy, a former driver for Lotus, and wellknown racecar driver.

The day started off with a continental breakfast at 7:30 am, catered by a pretty good company (no cheap stuff), then a little classroom time and off to the track in groups to do different types of excerices with cones. The different guests would be critiquing our driving skill. Then there was a fabulous lunch at about noon time. From there, they set up the short version of the track, so we wouldn't fry our brakes, and we would go in groups of about 5 or 6 cars at a time, trying to keep up with the instructor.

It wasn't a total race style event, as most of the customers attending were people of all types. Some just wanting to better their driving skills on the track, others, just trying to drive better period. But I can say that the whole event was just top notch. The comraderie was excellent.

The best part was at the end, when those professional drivers would take one of us in one of the exotic cars and run it on the long course. The long course that we have here, is really not that long compared to U.S. mainland tracks, but the Audi RS6 with Galati behind the wheel was able to get up to 120 mph at the end of the straight with all 4 people inside. And let me tell you, it is scary fast. Galati was chatting with us like he was driving us on a regular daily commute while the car was tossing and screeching through the turns. The only other car I got to ride in was the Ferrari 360 Modena. It hit 140 mph at the end of the straight, but it felt more relaxed, and did not slide around the track like the RS6 (big difference in weight). The other car I wanted to ride in, but didn't get the chance to because of the time, was the Lamborghini Gallardo. It hit 160 mph at the end of the straight.

All in all, I was pretty happy about the way my carhandled on the track. TheAWD makes aBIG differencein howyou can make so many mistakes and get away with it. I really look forward to upgrading the suspension and other stuff, because fast is never fast enough. The only other thing that I really, really liked about this whole event, was that it was free.
