Thanks all - I'm going to have someone man the throttle while I check this out after work. Hope its just a hose (IMHO famous last words).

Dave666: I'm thinking about getting the Dension icelink 2.0 and sticking it in the trunk CD changer compartment. Its around 200 - a little more than the one on mp3yourcar.com, but that one comes with a white cord that'll look messy against my black interior. Besides, black cables sound better[8D]

Then, I'll just route that cord back up front for some serious tune control!

Updates as the thrilling saga continues...more info means better searches for future noobs.

haha, when my vac line blew, all i had to do was pop the hood... it was rather obvious where the hissing was coming from at idle!

headshok2002: idle=no boost=no hiss

It's only audible under heavy throttle, an' I haven't had time to do the soapy-water test. Besides, there's a lotta hoses in there.

Here's the update:

couldn't find anything myself so I had a mechanic take a look; eventually he found a hose with a clamp that had been loosened. He tightened this, reset my codes (to delay CEL) and sent me on my way.

The boost is back, but throttle response is funny at part throttle. I get a little jerk, then no boost. Under full throttle, turbo lag seems to have increased, but the power is there. Could this have to do with resetting the ECU?

Dave666: I tried installing the iceLink, but now my Symphony is stuck in safe mode and I can't enter the codes. It worked OK at first, but I think something got jacked as I was struggling with the ground screw. Any ideas? (tried as search, will do another)

Its possible the ECU needs to relearn everything. Give it 50 miles and see if it gets any better.

You still may have a leak. Check the L-hose on the right side of the rear of the engine.
It is a VERY common cracking point (my avant had a crack here when I bought it). The part you replace it with is upgraded and will not crack again.

The hose is circled in red:
