Yes, if you have the right offset. What offset are you considering?
I run 18x9.5 rears with a 32mm offset with no rubbing at all. I use a 255/35/18 tire, although on a b7 you'd want to use a 265/35/18 rear and a 235/40/18 front to match the diameter (if you've got quattro, this is VERY important).

tks man i spoke with hp racing today and they informed me the 9" would fit at the back without and rubbing / poking 38 offset
and the front i am going with the 8" 38 offset which requires a 12mm spacer to clear the brake callipers and they claim it would not stick out at the sides

The claim that a spacer is needed for the front sounds suspicious. I'm running 8.5 with a 38MM offset and no spacers.

I think that B7 A4's got B6 S4 front brakes... so that'd make a difference for sure.
