Default 2.8 Sludge

So my 2.8 with almost 170k has sludge around the oil cap. Whats the best way of clearing this up, and can it ever really be fixed?

Try this product. Its been on the market for 76 years now and I have used it for at least 30 in most of my cars. http://www.barsproducts.com/100QR.htm

I was just there and came up with one item on search. Probably the bearings out of the 3.1 GM. I'll bet my oil is cleaner at change time than yours is after you change it. My 2.8 has 121,000 on the clock. Hell I been driving 17 years longer than you are old. And I been wrenching a lot longer than that. Sorry but the internal combustion engine hasn't changed all that much other than electronics and heat.

No need for that longer than you talk. I've got 114k on my 2.8 - so not much more there... I've been using synthetic since I got the car.

Cleaner? Surely you're wrenching over the years has taught you that clean oil doesn't mean it's effective. You need a universal oil analysis to REALLY tell...

Fact is people swear by that stuff for some reason...

Rislone is group 1 oil base-stock (Check the MSDS) with not a whole lot else in it. You probably did a search on BITOG but forgot to change the duration of time for the listing. I got 344 hits spanning back two years.

I've personally used that stuff and while it didn't hurt anything it didn't DO anything either. I cut open the filter after a "treatment" to find it pretty much did nothing. I cut open the 2 filters from an autoRX treatment and those actually displayed some cleaning ability.

EDIT: Here's the list of rislone's additives

Zinc 376 ppm
Phos. 348 ppm
Calcium 781 ppm
Vis @ 100C 9.21 (means it's a 20w mineral oil)

^ Nothing magical there.

They are the same in theory. I'll end up with AutoRX cause i know i can get it off the shelf in VT. Why would it be better than autorx redrum?
