Hey all, new to the forums, but I've been trying to read as much as I can here before posting. Anyway, came across a used 2000 A4 1.8t, tip, that's a little rough artound the edges. Turns out the owner wants to sell, butthe car comes with some gremlins. He says the turbo is shot, and it's possibly spun a bearing. His story is that he got some water in the intake from a puddle and it cooked the turbo. It still runs and drives under its own power, but that's not indicative of what it needs.
Anyone here ever experience anything like that? What am I looking at for replacing the turbo, what if it really spun a bearing, complete rebuild? New motor? I am looking for a project car, but is that more trouble than it's worth?
Thanks!

well, if you want your car running back to stock like it was, a k03 turbo (stock turbo) can be found pretty cheap. and im assuming you mean that the car has a bad wheel bearing on it. those arent that much to replace.
i wouldn't drive the car on a shot turbo. have u test drove the car? can you not hear the turbo spooling as u step on the gas?
how much is he selling the car for, how many miles does the car have? (that way we can better help u to see if the car is worth getting)

can u work under the hood? if yeah, then its a few bolts and some oil lines to disconnect, another k03 can be bought for really cheap or you can upgrade the turbo.

Thanks for the quick reply! I haven't seen the car other than a walk-around. I got the impression it was an enginebearing that spun, a wheel bearing would be a snap to fix. I also posted this over at Audi-world, and they've unanimously voted that I run as far and as fast as I can and don't look back! I'll probably do just that.ORIGINAL: A4speed

Negotiable as far as I know, he has no idea, I'm trying to figure out what's involved in a fix. It's rough around the exterior too, bumpers are scuffed up, side skirts are half gone. At first glance it looked like a prime candidate for euro bumper kit and some minor body work, a set of wheels and I'd be ready to go. Looks like it'd be more than I bargained for.

yeah, unless he offers to sell it for under 2 g's. just forget about it
