2001 Audi A4 has sludge (looks similar to oil) forming on the bottom of chassi near the exact middle

I am not sure what this is, but it has little smell to it and is very think. It is somewhat similar to oil but is thicker and has little smell to it. I also smell burnt oil from time to time through the air vents. Ideas?

leaky valve cover gasket and cam tensiner gasket. Check around the cover and you will see some leaks in the back of the engine.

Is that very serious or can the repair wait?

It really shouldnt be put off. I would swap it asap but you can still drive it until you order the parts (~$45 from ecstuning.com) and do it. But be warned that my brothers tranny was covered (among other parts) in oil and needed oil added every couple days until he got his kit in the mail. So the sooner the better.

That is if you check and that is your problem.

Do you use a good oil filter?

Thanks for the advice. It isn't dripping, it is some residue on the bottom.

Yeah check the Valve cover gasket. Mine spewed oil by the dipstick, and out by the cat, which then burned like crazy. Turned out that when i had my car checked up on for noisy valves etc, the guys never replaced the old gasket [:@]!!! When i took it off it was cracked and no longer one piece!!!

I know it will need to be fixed but I do not believe that it is that serious. Especially since it is leaking at a SLOW rate and doesn't drip.

Then its deffinatly not coming from the cam tensioner gasket, if it was from there in the valve cover, you would have everything covered in no time. Im glad my TT doesnt have the half moon POS peice. :D
