I have the oppernutity to purchase a 2002 a4 1.8t 5-speed with 110,000 highway miles. The price is right, but I need to know what to expect from a car with this many miles. What questions should I ask and what should I have a mechanic check specifically. I'd like to know from your experiances when the turbo/transmission usually needs replacing, etc. From what I have read here it seems that the 1.8t is a pretty solid engine (if its babied) and I know its been around for quite awhile. Thank you in advnace.
RE: 2002 1.8t 110,000 miles what to expect?
WOW! never seen a car that had that much milage in so little time. Well definatly have a someone that knows audis take a good look at it , i only have 14,000 miles on my car but i only did 4,000 of that so definatly have the car looked inside out and ask if the car has been in any accidents cuz a car driving that much had to be in at least one

mileage is overrated to a point, as long as it was well taken care of. 110k is a ton in such a short time tho. i would def change all fluids and have all the pre-mentioned things checked/done. i would take the car with 110k over a car with 50k that was driven hard. i put alot of miles on every car i have, but they're on fresh oil, and they're well mainted. if its a friend of the family, you should have some insight on his responsibility and car knowledge.

I've got about 120,000 on my 2000 1.8t. In addition to the aforementtioned service items, I'd check to see whether the DV has been replaced too. Check and see when the timing belt and water pump was done too. Your getting close to the second go around with those two. Always better to err on the side of caution with both of them. Stick or auto? If it's mostly highway miles, the clutch may be ok for a while.
