2003 1.8T A4 needs new TRANSMISSION!!?!!
 

I drive: 03 Audi A4 1.8T w/100k miles

First and foremost I have alot of problems with my A4. I bought it knowing one problem, got it fixed. Then I was rear ended last year and my car has never been the same. My insurance has spent over 12,000 fixing my car, KB value I think is 6,900. And I still owe the bank 7,000

Obviously my biggest problem is the transmission. My mechanic wants $7500 for a new trans. I refuse!! How lucky can i get on a used trans from a salvage yard?? How hard will it be to find and install??

A used tranny is a crap shoot and could be good money wasted!! Checking any reputable transmission shop for a price to rebuild it is 1 option. Finding a used tranny should be easy enuf but is it good?? a good Wrecker will back it with a 3-6 months replacement warrante but you'll be on the hook for the labour to re&re it and that can vary by several hundreds of $$$. Another option could be to check and see if any of your friends know someone who does this type of work cheaper at home.
