Default 2005 audi s4 127k miles...

Im looking to get my first audi, and im going to reach out to all the expierenced audi mechanics and hobbiest here. I found a 05 s4 here:

2005 Audi S4 $13,995 - Don Rosen Imports - Conshohocken, PA 19428 Dealer

It looks like its in great shape...I know the dealer so they are on the level..however i dont know to many people with audis over 90k. I know the S series is built a bit more robust then the standard a4 so that may help, but im just not sure if i should get a car with that kind of milage since if something breaks I really dont have a garage to fix it. Let me know what you guys think.

The best advise if your are not that mechanically inclined or are without the means of checking it out yourself is to have a repair shop do a pre purchase inspection. Preferably a shop that specializes in Euro cars.
Nice car , the 4.2 has some awesome low end torque but as with any European car they can be a bit pricy if you have to pay someone to fix it.

I have more then enough mechanical prowess to fix almost anything on the audi...my only problem atm is im in an apartment with no garage..so id have to use a friends or something if something did arise. I did however contact the dealer its at and they have serviced the car since it was new...so im guessing since its one owner its a lot of highway miles, and they will be able to tell me what has been replaced already. IE timing belts suspension bushing and the like. I have been surfing and a lot of good things have been said about these cars even high mileage ones. I prob will take it somewhat easy on this car if i do buy it, since ive gotten most of my speed days out of me with my 2001 kenny bell supercharged mustang cobra. I just want to be pampered now with the option of being able to get on it when i want to. also how is this car on gas?

My audi has 173k miles and drives fine, gave me a few problems such as, wheel bearing, 5 disc cd changed draining my battery , new valve gasket cover and a few lighting problems. But an audi will last you a long time if you take proper care of it. Change oil, tansmisson fluid, coolant fuses, ect. Its a V8 so i would expect the gas mileage to be honda civic like. It should get around 20mpg which isnt too bad. But i would look around view other options. Also always look up the Kelly blue book and ask for a carfax before you put both feet in.

yeah i have the carfax, looks like its a one owner dealer served car...everything is normal in there except...wham out of no where 122k miles or so transmission replaced...so idk, but looks like the car has had all its normal and recommended services...im going to take a look at and kick the tires and such...maybe kick the transmission make sure its on there good...I just find it hard to belive that it only gets like 20mpg highway...my 550hp supercharged cobra got like 24 highway...but like 8 city...lol

Well, you gotta remeber. AWD needs more gas, ill assume your cobra is rwd. and the transmission replacement is on the carfax? i wouldnt be to worried, he might have a little problem and didnt know the difference haha. but also watch out for the convertible top. make sure that isnt leaking n such

yeah im not super worred about gas right now since my commute to work is only 20 miles..with no traffic and its almost all highway. Good thinking about the rag top thing my wifes eclipse spider leaks at the doors and the rear part of the rag top...other than that i mean other than miles the car looks like its in mint condition for like 14k...i mean can you really beat that a 05 s4 for that price...hopefully there isnt anything crazy wrong with it.

Spower,

Did you ever go look at this car?
I bought it, but have never seen it, I live in Utah and am having it shipped, here's the kicker:

They sold it to me stating that the "timing chain is stretched"

I have read up on the S4 V8 timing chain issues, but was curious what you found.

I ended up buying the car for $9500. I have a lift, cherry picker, etc and thought it would be fun to pull the motor and replace the timing components, so I went for it.

I'm just curious if you had any info on it as I just put my $500 refundable deposit down and will be sending payment to them the day after tomorrow so its not too late, but as long as the chain isnt so bad the pistons have hit the valves, i'm excited to get it.

Thanks for the help!

Timing chain stretched? Good luck with that.

I'd be leery of the fact that a trailer hitch is being removed from the vehicle and a carfax that mentions the transmission replacement.

Put those things together and I think someone beat on this vehicle hard.
