60,000 mile maintenance

I am due to have the 60k mile maintenance done on my A4 1.8T automatic. I understand that preventative maintenance is very important, but how important is the 60k maintenance since the dealer recommends a maintenance every 10k anyway? Any insight and guidance will be helpful. Thanks.

If you dont do it and your timing belt snaps you will need to rebuild the entire top half of your motor, which is a lot more expensive then the 1100 bucks the dealer charges for the belt.

You can probably find a local shop to do it for like 750 if you look around.

Thanks for the info. My car is a 2003 and I have never missed any scheduled maintenance before. Are problems common around the 60k mile mark for A4s? Thanks.

Well pretty much any car with a timing belt needs it around 60K, Ive seen some go at 68K ive seen some last past 100K but in the end its not worth the risk. Most will do more, but 60K is like a failsafe, because its rare that one would snap before that.

Some Excerpts
*My chain just snapped at 67k and I'm looking at an estimated $4500-$6000 to get my car back on the road
*My timing belt broke on my '99 a4 1.8t with 76k on the clock
*1.8T Golf 2000 with 110,000 Km. at the end of december 2006 my timing belt snapped and that bent some valves in the engine.
*Hello, I have the exact same problem. I live in Nashville Tn, but was driving my A4 (with 70k) on the beltway outside of Washington D.C. when my car broke down. My total repair bill was $6,000.

I called the Audi dealer and they said that the timing belt is not checked until 90k miles on the A4.

It’s up to you, I personally wouldn’t go over 65K. And if you follow that link you will see like 200 people who had theirs brake between 67K and 88K (most in the early 70K range), as well as lawsuits filed against Audi for incorrect service intervals.

RE: 60,000 mile maintenance

Do people ever insist that Audi check the timing belt before the 90k mile scheduled maintenance when Audi plans to check it? I decided tohave the 60k maintenance done next week, but if timing belts are such a problemI want to have them check it at that point too. Thanks.
