you don't need a pannel popper, they are very simple to remove. there should be two small screws, one on each side and one more inside the interior handle. Once those are out pull out the inside piece of the inside handle and there will be two more screws. Once removed simply lift on the pannel and it slides right off. You should be able to pinpoint what is wrong with your handle quite easily, I'm guessing its a loose screw or nut. If you still aren't sure snap a picture or two, I have had to completely break down and assemble the whole locking system, so I'll try to help you out.
ok well i got the door panel off (that was easy). i had a look and found that when i push on the key hole it pushes back into the door, i couldnt see that anything was broken.......... the whole locking mechanism moves back and forward. also the upper part of the driversdoor handle on the outside of thecar has pulled away from the door itself and sits a few mm (maybe 4mm) off the door and im not sure how this is fastend to the door.
any help much appriciated

there is an odd shaped "latch" which locks all of those components in place it looks like a "C" with a little stem coming off of it. This slides up between the actual lock and the handle and is then turned a quarter turn to lock it in place. It is really hard to explain and I dont have any pictures. What I suggest is taking of your other door pannel and comparing the two. My guess is that this "C latch" has fallen off. Check on the bottom of the inside of the door for it...
Let me know how it goes, and I will try and take some pictures if necessary.
