Have the oil pressure checked ASAP. Never run an engine when the red oil pressure light is on.

 

welll good news, turned out the engine had the wrong oil pres sensor installed, on 96 2.8 models it calls for a 1.8bar sensor and i had a .3 bar sensor according to the shop guy so it thought it was getting too much pressure, switched the sensor to the correct one and bam no more oil light.
