Hi everyone..I am new to this forum..I have owned Audi's for quite a few years..I just purchased a 98 A4 1.8 quattro for $2000..When I test drove it shifted fine..I put it in manual mode, and it downshifted fine but wouldnt upshift manually..When I returned it to Auto it acted like it didnt know what gear to go to..It would shift 1-2, then come out of gear, then back in..Previous owner was told by Audi tech when scanned that it was either the TCM or ECM..He couldnt remember which..Does any of this make sense? I am having it towed here this weekend..!st course of action is I will service the trans..Also, there is play in the turbo, so I need to replace it..Coes anyone have a used one for sale? Thanks for any info I can get..Rich

 

Check ebay, or this forum also craigslist there are a few around!

 

changed the tranny fluid first and see wut happens

 

change the tranny fluid, if ur going to change the turbo dont go with the factory k03 pay a 100 dollars more and get a k04 get new fuel injectiors, new software for the ecu and you will have a fast car

 

One more question..What type of ATF should I use? Thanks for the help..Rich

 

go to ecs tunning website, they haveoem fluid anda/t filter and gasgets everything required todo a quality job by your self

 

this is what i found when i changed my transmission fluid and filter......everything worked out great for me.
there is some good info about trans fluid too.
