About to buy 01 A4 w/ spoiler...factory?
Thanks fellas for your advice...
It's down to that 2001 above w/ FWD, BOSE, cold weather, needs timing belt change, 90k - $8500.
or a 1999 w/ AWD, BOSE, cold weather, sport pack, timing belt done, newer tires, 92k - $7900.
Which would you go for? Any compelling reason to pick one model year over the other?
The factory CD is big plus in my book for the 01.

i'd rock the '99. cheaper and quattro. simple investment in the chip will keep you more than happy and help you forget about the extra hp on the 2001.
yeah...definatly the '99.

is it a 99 or a 99.5, there are quite a few differences (cosmetically anyway)....i'd get the 99 either way because it's a drive-by-cable system, whereas the 01 is DBW...and i think the 99 has more mod potential as well....but if you don't plan on doing any modding, the 01 has 20+HP stock than all the older models.
It's a 99.5 b/c of the location of the cupholder and the looks of the auto A/C. Are the 99.5 and 01 identical cosmetically? What do you mean DBW? The cable I presume is that which is connected to the throttle? DBW - drive by wate as in hydrolics?
I thought it was mentioned here that the lights of the speedometer weren't red on the 01 as they were on previous model years. Is that correct?

no, they're still red..here's the cosmetic exterior differences through the years....dbw is drive-by-wire....

the dealership is trying to get out of doing it for you. you need to go back to that dealership angry, and tell them that NO ONE recommends 110k miles....a better idea is to go to another dealership and tell them that you're upset and that you don't want to deal with that other shop anymore....some dealerships will actually help you out when your warranty's running out, and they'll hook you up with control arms, tune-ups, all kinds of stuff....you just have to find the right place....someone on this forum called audi directly about a seat heater issue, and that worked very well for him, i think you should do the same, tell them that that stealership told you 110k for the tb, they'll handle it for you. search the forum for that thread, i'm not even sure exactly who it was the guy called...

Maybe I'll settle for the 99.
i'd get the 99 if you want to tune it....that sucks that you can't find a dealership to do the tb under warranty....i thought that was something the warranty covered....where do you live?
NYC area...northern suburbs. They may be programmed to say that over the phone to cover their behinds. Bringing the car in may give more favorable results, but I don't think I want to chance it.
