Air From Defroster and Footwell, Not Center
K So I've had this 96 A4 for about a year now and it's been problem after problem after problem. Regardless to say, I love the car and refuse to give it up for something else.
The latest problem on the agenda today is the climate control. All winter I have gotten no heat from the defroster vents or footwell vents. So it makes perfect sense that since I live in new jersey, and it's may and has gotten about 50 degrees warmer in the past month, I have the exact opposite problem now. My thought is that it's a flap or valve that's stuck in one position, because I cannot minipulate it with my electric climate control. I have no Vag-com so I have no way of reading the fault codes. So my question is, has anyone had this problem before and how did the correct it. There seems to be no easy way to get to the blower motor Any ideas?
Any help would be greatly appreciated

hey welcome to the forums, Im actually from the bridgewater area. Its nice to see others on here from generally the same area. i know this sounds like a dumb idea but have you tried the buttons on the right side of the HVAC unit? the up arrow, center button, and down arrow? try putting it in auto mode and see what it does. if not, not really sure what you could do about that. not too informed about the hvac system.
Believe me I've tried all that. Doesn't do jack. If anything it restricts flow to the defroster and footwell, but no increase in pressure at all to the forward facing vents. There must be a set of valves or something to redirrect the air from the central blower to the various vent sets, the question is where are they located, and is there a way to get to them without pulling out the entire dash. I get the most awkward feeling that if I pull the dash out I won't be able to get it back in. Plus there's no point in investing all the time not knowing for certain if it's the problem or having the part on hand to replace it.
the dash isnt too hard to take apart and put back together, i would def try some other options before digging that route though. maybe someone else on here knows a lil more about the HVAC system
it is not a matter of on auto or not. it doesn't. period. there's gotta be some valve that dirrects it either to the defroster and floor vents, or to the center vents. during the winter i had the exact opposite happen
Has anyone solved their problem? I have a '98 cabriolet that will not blow air through the defroster, and I cannot turn the fan off at any setting. Also, I have either hot or cold, with no in between.
