UPDATE OF AS 11/9/06

I called the dealer today to verify my part number. I did not give me my Security part number because he was able to give me a part number for my 00 A4 1.8tqm. He said that MOST 00 are 3 button, capable of using the trunk release. He asked if it had a power sunroof, so that must be one of their determining factors for what quarter production it was released in. Here is the part # that I received: 4D0 837 231 P 01C

If youre like me, you bought an A4, no matter the year, used from a private dealer or auction. Unfortunately, you only received one key right? And it wasnt one with the key fob, another right?

Well, a lot of the guys are saying just look on your key fob and inside will be the part number you need to purchase the right fob for your year. If you dont have one, then obviously you wont know. You be forced to ask on here and get a lot of different answers. Here's the thing Ive found that you could have two of the same production year cars with different fob part numbers. So, without at least one set, youre pretty much screwed. WRONG.... IF your car has the OEM Audi security sticker, on my 00 A4 1.8TQM its on both, driver and passenger side back door windows. On this sticker you'll see a Part #, that number corresponds to the key fob that you will need to program to get it to work with your OE alarm system.

Instead of trying to figure it out, you can look there, locate the part number and call the dealer to verify that A. They either have the part or B. That part number will work for your car.

Hope this helps on cutting down the confusion, remember Security Alarm sticker both back door windows.

you should just add it on to one of the stickies up top in a seperate post. if they add too many stickies it'll just cover the whole page. although maybe that will finally get the noobs to start noticing them

If you get a key off ebay, where can you get them laser cut? How much?

This has been addressed in other posts, but I guess it can come up here as well. Usually an Audi dealer can do it pretty cheaply. Ive seen 10$ and 15$ charges to cut keys. Theres a how-to program the fob for you car on here, so the dealer doesnt need to do that. Also, there are some locksmiths that have the access to cut Audi/VW keys, just call and check with them.

That would work, just trying to keep from people asking this question. It seems to be a pretty common problem for lots of Audi owners.
