Default APR FMIC vs EVO (Evolution Motorsports) FMIC

Hey Everyone,

I am currently trying to decide between getting the APR FMIC intercooler and the Evo FMIC. I have been searching for the past hour but it is hard to find any solid information about these two units. I can get both of these units for the same price (APR used, EVO new). I am wondering if there are any real perfomance differences, I will also be adding a K04 with injectors and a APR ECU upgrade. The other thing is i do not like how the apr hangs down, i am putting on a USP front bumper, with a slight chance of an oettinger. I like how the Evo is a path though design, just for cosmetic reasons, but i have heard the APR is more efficient, plus it allows more air through to the radiator. It also seems that there would be less piping with the Evo which to me means it would increase it effiency since the air has to travel less distance which means a smaller pressure drop.

If anyone has any info, or has had these two cores and can note any differences they noticed it would be greatly appriciated.

Thanks

it really depends on what you want. i heard that the Ecoms fmic can be used with a stock front bumper, but im not sure. and APR is always over priced and you have to do some cutting. on the other hand i do not trust ecoms anymore because of their cai, but that is another story.

try searching this site more and audizine.com, maybe they have more info

APR does not currently have a K04 file, unless they just released one. so you'll probably want to go GIAC for that.

B5= Can't help you.
B6 and I can a little. I don't know about Evolution Moterworks, but Evolution Raceworks is a great intercooler. They have a comp and a sport. If you're only going K04 then Sport is fine.
I don't like the APR FMIC. The only benifit it has in my eyes is letting a Stage III+ kit bolt right up without modification. Ask me how I know this.....
I have Racetec FMIC and love it. My temps are great with it and I have no pressure loss. And it's way cheaper than both APR and ER.
I'll have to look in to Evolution Moterworks as I've never seen one. But again, that's B6; I have no idea what's out there for B5 these days.

I have it for B6. Awesome intercooler. Does all it is supposed to. Good air temps and no boost loss with Stage III+. Hard piping on both sides. Great price. GB at another Audi Site was $699 or something.
