Are Audi`s a money pit?
 

Please I need some help with this question.
Do Audi`S break down a lot and do I need to be some type of mechanic so it wont cost me a fortune. Some one asked me what kind of a car are you buying and I said its ether going to be a 2002 Audi or a new subaru legacy GT. He replied and said dont get an Audi because they are a money pit to fix. Is there any truth to this and if so what do you Audi owners say about that?

The audi`s I am looking at 2002 A4 1.8 with 49,000 or a 2002 A4 3.0 with 38,000

Well they certainly cost a bit more to fix than say a honda civic. Most of us here are very happy with our Audi's and suffer from car problems. I'm not going to lie though, when they break it can be expensive. If you are even mildly handy though you can fix 75% of the problems you'll find occur. An Audi will be MUCH more fun to drive than any Subaru keep in mind. You can't beat the interior too!

Audi's are a bit more pricey on parts. But there German. I love my audi and would'nt trade it for the world. So far I've been lucky and only had a few small issues. There are online parts shops I use to get my parts. mostly I buy everything from ECStuning.com. i.e. the timing belt kit cost $300 bucks but it included everything for the job at hand.

....sad to say it, mine is. There is always something wrong with it. if not one thing, its another. but i love it! if i were u id def go with the 3.0

if u keep its stock and do the regular maintenance then u will be fine

well if u mod it like me then ur screwed its a total moeny pit but its my hobby so i enjoy it

As long as you don't take the warning lights seriously, you will be just fine.

I must be a real glutton for punishment, with a 1996 A4 and a 2001 Passat. One cannot afford to ignore maintenance on these cars.

I have had good luck with a 1976 Ford Pinto and even better luck with three Dodges (1988 K-car, 1989 Spirit, 2003 Stratus), none of which is generally considered to be particularly reliable. I got 85k hard city miles out of the Pinto C3, arguably the least reliable automatic transmission Ford ever produced, because I dropped the pan and changed the fluid every 20k miles. (Believe it or not, the car was stolen at that point, and never recovered. No car is theft-proof!)

The Audi's history includes water pump replacement at the 9-year / 60k mile mark. The timing belt and brakes were done at the same time. The ignition switch was replaced under recall/warranty.

The Passat's history includes leaky cam seals and cam chain adjuster replacement at the 4-year / 25k mile mark, and it was covered under my 10-year (gloat, gloat) factory powertrain warranty. To me, this is a bit of a black eye, but all other problems have been minor and cheap DIY repairs (vacuum hoses, brake light bulbs, etc.).

i just bought my audi....and basically from my experience you get out what you put in! GREAT CAR, im not really performance crazy (not yet), but theres so much you can do to your car. i love it, my mom asked me if i regret it (since i need to replace my brakes cuz its that time) i was like hell no....IMO greatest car i've ever drove. and i've drove honda, ford, lexus, toyota....alot of them but audi is my pick
