Hmm ok thanks . I wonder could the turbo be failing ? What is the first thing to look at , the Diverter Valve ?

I think.. If its the dirverter valve do what cincy says. Remove the airbox cover and gas it.. let it go. If it sounds like a honk change ur dv.

To find out crap about my turbo, I'm going to get a boost gauge, soon.

i’m surprised no one mentioned about limp mode, u have to get obd2 scanner and see if you have anything stored on your ecu, some codes wont trigger cel but will kick you into limp mode, meaning instead of 9-10psi you running 4-5psi… this would feel like quite dead car

Since he's not chipped, I'd guess his doesnt boost untill at least 3k, unless he's a b6.
When does a B6 spool?

sooner. VVT helps with that.

I may be a nub, but "sooner" wasn't what I was looking for. What RPM range are we talking about?

well, I haven't driven a 1.8T B6, so I don't know first hand. but according to audi, B6's (well 2002s at least) develop their maximum torque of 166 ft/lbs at 1950 rpms. boost = torque. having said that though, AEB engines are supposed to generate their maximum torque (155 ft/lbs) at 1750 rpms. I question that though, my car is anything but torquey at 1750 rpms. [&:]

I think I'm more confused now than I was before I read this thread. [:@]

k03's have virtually no lag and spool very quickly so i dont know how you people hear your k03 spool up. if your running stock you should barely even be able to tell you even have a turbo. 8psi out of a tiny k03 ain't much. your hitting maximum boost before 2k rpms.

comparison

Well, I have never had a car with a Turbo so I am still getting the feel for it . Maybe I am just not driving the car correctly , to get the maximum benefit from the turbo .

I was driving home tonight from town , about 60mph in 5th gear (around 2500 rpms or so ) . If I floor it , it picks up speed , but nothing special . When I dropped her to 4th and floored it , it still didnt blow me away (again i am not used to a turbo so, maybe I am expecting to much) . I slowed her down to about 40mph and dropped to 3rd , acellerated hard and I hit 60mph pretty quickly allright ..

Sound about right ? I might drop her into the local Audi dealer and get them to take a look . Maybe she needs a tune up ? There is 70K on the clock.

thanks
Martin

YOu very well could be in limp mode. I would suggest getting it scanned at a auto parts store and see if there are any codes. If there are have them clear them and then run it for a while and go back and see if any come up again. Also look into getting a boost gauge installed. That will tell you how much boost you are running which will tell you if there is something weird going on with your turbo. Boost gauges are not that hard to install and are fairly cheap.
