Is everybodies clutch weak or is it just me?

Is everybodies clutch weak or is it just me?
So i somewhat accidently dropped the clutch at about 5k... totally wasnt paying attention at a light... and anyways, when it dropped the car felt likeit was in .5 gear... it like moved like a slug at like 5 and i shifted to 2nd and the clutch didnt wanna grip. at this point, i'm scared shitless!
so i just hit the clutch and let the rpm drop to idle and then proceeded to go as usual, with a nice really smelly clutch that ive come to get used to when u dont baby it... gripped fine thru all gears after that, no slipage, just drove normally.
my clutch is maybe 7k miles old, is this typical or is mine extra poopy? i here people talk about the clutches being weak, but damn!
p.s.- dont flame me please for dropping the clutch! i know i'm not supposed to... but i did... and im sorry audi... =(

Yeah it'll go out that quick. I've done a couple 4k drops, and a couple 5k-ish on packed snow, and it does NOT like it. Mine slipped for the day, then after it cooled down it went back to pretty much normal.
Luckily, there's a SB stg 3 on it's way to my house now!

sounds like you glazed the clutch.. A day or two of conservative driving fixs that.. You probably didnt do any significant damage. As far as the tranny/drivetrain, it can handle 5k rpm clutch drops, but the stock clutch (the middle man) cant. where did tomritt go?

ha that sounds good i wanna see it....
i freeked out and tried to slap it in 1st and go, but it it was still in nuetral when i reved, so i slammed in the clutch and pushed it in to gear, still reving... and yea...
why are clutches for our cars like 1k at the cheapest? all other cars ive seen were like 300 ish for like stg 2....

You're looking at the stage 3 made with the rs4 parts, probably. Plus, putting 400chp to the ground with quattro is a lot harder on a clutch than 400chp on a 2wd car if you're launching and such.
www.dxdracingclutches.com (southbend) has some great prices and their clutches are HIGHLY reccommended by everybody on here and audizine.
They have a stage 3 clutch for $450, then you can get your flywheel resurfaced for 50, so for $500+ shipping you get a stage 3 clutch good for anything up to a pc-16 k04.
