Hello - A few months ago I purchased an 02 Audi A4 quattro b6 w/3.0l engine. I purchased it with 72k and it now has 74k plus I got an oil change from the Audi dealer when I first picked it up.
Now the cold weather is coming into play and over the weekend I noticed a clicking noise coming from near my engine that sounds almost like a stuck lifter/tappit. I never have owned an Audi before and not 100% sure if this is it. Is this common? What could cause it? How much can I expect to pay for a repair? Is this not a big issue?
Thanks in advance

RE: Audi A4 tappit / lifter sound b6
when are you noticing it? i have the same sound that i'm only noticing when my car is off, though it could be there when the car is on.. just perhaps my cars intake and exhaust muffles the sound. I've been trying to figure out this sound too, I do know after being around a lot of Audis that this sound isn't normal.

I do not have this noise on my 01 1.8TQM but my mom has a 2006 A4 2.0TQM and it had a ticking/clicking sound like your describing. Since it was under warranty we took it back to the dealer and it turned out being 2 of the 4 coil packs going bad. Which is kind of surprising for only have 18K miles on it but the noise went away with the replaced coil packs (#1, and #3).... Hope this helps!!

search on www.audizine.com there as has been several people with b6 3.0's that have had something break up top causing severe engine damage about that mileage you have.... i forget what broke exactly, i think one of the lobes on the camshaft or something.... there were two posts about it and several more had had the same problem
they had an ongoing ticking noise that got worse and by the time the dealer got it, the engine was trashed

I headed into the dealer today and told them I needed an oil change and an inspection. They came back and found nothing wrong with the car. I asked them about the tapping noise and they said its normal just that it was the fuel injectiors that were being loud and that it was nothing to worry about. I feel pretty relieved since it was an Audi dealership and a total of three techs looked at it... now should I do something about the noisey fuel injectors? I put a cleaner in my gas tank today to see if it would change anything.
Thank you again to everyone that helped me out with the advice above, I am happy it turned out to be nothing major

that should worry you that three audi techs looked at it...
i would MAKE them note in your vehicle history that you complained of a loud tapping noise....
