Default B6 1.8T interference or non-interference?

I was wondering if anyone knows if the B6 1.8T engine(I'm assuming the 02-04 is the same thing) is an interference or non-interference engine? I read somewhere that you should just go ahead and do your timing belt at 60K miles. I bought my car with 63KsoI don't know if it's been done already or not. If it's a non-interference engine I might just take the chance that it has and keep driving it till it breaks or 100K. If it's interference then I will probably just go ahead and do it now.

Does anyone hereknow?

Thanks,
Mike

don’t risk…. if it breaks you may have to replace your engine.

+1 - its not worth the $2k-$3k bill if it does break.

Yes your 1.8t is an interference motor and is notorius for timing belt failure I would have it replaced.

Yea, a timing belt isn't something you want to play with. You should replace it just to be safe

Thanks for the heads up guys. I found a site ecstuning.com and they have timing belt kits. Anyone ever use them before? recommend/not recommend?

I wish there was a way to check and see what work has been done on this car and what hasn't.

Are there anything other major areas to check at 60K?

Mike
