Default bent turbo fin (prop)

Has anyone ever bent the fin back to normal on a K04/K03 or any turbo actually?

I have a slight turbo whine due to a bent fin (prop) in the intake side of the turbo and the turbo is only 10 months old (nope, no warranty!) and I was told I could just bend the fin back to normal and it would stop whinning.. if I could do this it would be awesome!!!

Thanks,
Mike

eh, I suppose in theory you could do it, but it sounds like risky business to me. If you don't have the money for a new turbo you could always rebuild it.

no you cant because the turbo will not be balanced and it will wear out the bearings in the turbo then the turbine will hit the housing and then lock up or blow apart and cause more damage then its worth.

Do you have any idea how fast turbos spin? i dont but i know its ******* fast as hell... 50,000rpm or more probably... at any rate whatever it is, this isnt a radiator fan on a chevy truck you can just bend back to place... get it rebuilt or buy a used one...$200-300 bucks probably

Not to mention that if you stress the metal fin any, it will weaken. Then add spinning at such a high rate of speed generating pressure, that's a huge amount of stress.

good point, i know several times i have tried to straighten slightly bent metal on sunglasses or various things only to have to break off when it was almost straight again.. and those kind of parts arent under incredible centrifugal force!

If you could bend it, how much would you bend it? Even if you were to get the dimensional issues acceptable, turbos are a centrifugal compressor with fluid dynamics, rotational dynamics, and the extreme rotational speeds (100,000 rpm is not uncommon) can result in a hand grenade if they fail at full power. You can have it repaired as most compressor disks are bolted on whereas the turbine is not.
Recommend that you keep your foot out of it until it is repaired properly, by a shop that is familiar with turbochargers. Replacing a turbo is a driveway possible job, rebuilding a turbo requires the shop, the tools and the knowledge.

Dont even be thinking about bending it. Just replace or rebuild. Don't go cheap.

would you balance your own wheel without a balancer machine? i'm just using an analogy but it is your car lol.
