Default Best Shifter?

From what I've tried, Audi manual transmissions are not a pleasure to row through. They're mediocre at best. What is the best aftermarket shifter? I hear that B&N is too short for daily driving. I'm lookin for something that shifts precisely yet isn't so short you hardly feel yourself rowing through gears. What works for you guys?

correct, diy...you can also buy the cheap ones off ebay, they're much cheaper and i have yet to hear any complaints about them....aside from occasionally having to drill out the holes a little

yes drilling out the holes and i had to grind the ball down to get the ring to fit to hold the ball in place. other than that i love it and it is also adjustable to where you want it.

I have a problem though. I'm not very mechanically inclined, and I'm lousy at these kinda projects. How much time/effort/money would it take?

the DIY mod takes no money.

You basically remove the shift lever, cut off a part of the lever rod, drill a couple holes lower in the fulcrum, use that new hole as the pivot and put back in car. The hardest part is putting it back in the car - its a real PITA. No special tools or anything are needed (except a tap/die which is not really all that expensive).

what? what are you talking about, man? The point of the DIY is to shorten the shift.
But no - the short shift actually makes shifting harder and more stiff, not easier.
Think about your physics. Shorten the lever and you need to apply more pressure to move the counterweight.
But the shift is quicker - and thats what people want.
