BIKE RACK
So I bought my 98 A4 a few months ago and have been using an attachable bike rack on the trunk. It was recently destroyed by my drunk fraternity brothers, so I was wondering which kind of rack you guys recommend to mount on the roof. I have heard that yakima is the best brand, but what model should I be looking for and for what price?? Thanks!

RE: BIKE RACK
I have owned both Thule and Yakima. Both are quality. They are really close on price and available attachements.
My preference is slightly with the Yakima, I like how they designed the connections between the various components. But that is only a personal preference. As far as materials, workmanship and durability you can't go wrong with either system. Good luck! |
RE: BIKE RACK
i say you should buy the audi factory one

RE: BIKE RACK
i'd go with a thule or yakima...yakima imo is the better of the two...i haven't heard anything about the factory rack, good or bad...

RE: BIKE RACK
I purchased the Thule rack system but I returned it in favor of the Audi rack system. The Audi system is much, much cleaner. It uses a slot type rail which is very nice and since it's made for the car the bars don't go past the posts so you won't be banging your head on it when you get in or out of your car. Also with the Audi system the posts are closer to the edge where the roof is stronger.

RE: BIKE RACK
saris rack is the only way to go. its expensive, but its the best made, best looking rack out there. alot nicer than the audi racks. its such a clean install and it looks oem. cant go wrong.

RE: BIKE RACK
Saris beats the living snot out of both thule and yakima... I dont know how yakima and thule are still around... they are hideous, and much more annoying to put on and off the car.
Saris is very very very well made -- and looks awesome. Note how low it is to the roof of the car, where the yakimas are like 6" off the roof. the load bars are also ovalized, opposed to little hockey stick shaft looking things... I know thule and yakima work well -- but they are behind with the times. http://www.chris.offtone.com/photos/bikerack/3.jpg http://www.chris.offtone.com/photos/bikerack/2.jpg http://www.chris.offtone.com/photos/bikerack/1.jpg |
