Boost in oil???

So i ran a boost check yesterday very similar to the tennisball methos (which is a load of poo) but i used PVC instead which worked

i only got it to 3-5 psi becuase my mechanic says if u go above 10 psi you will blow oil out your exaust fro a few minutes form gettin oil inteh turbo

well, when i ran the test, i found that my entire crank case became pressurized! the dip stick was leaking air!

then when i started it, blue smoke billowed out my exause for 10 minuites or so...

y is there boost pressure in my oil??

RE: Boost in oil???

The air coming out of the dip stick holewas probablysome air that blew by the rings. Did you disconnect the PVC connection to the TIP before you did the boost leak test. BTW, I do my boost leak tests with 20psi, I figure if my turbo is pushing 20 psi, the only way I can detect a boost leak is by introducing as much air into the system as the turbo is pushing. I had a boost leak once that I would only start hearing at 10psi, anything under would not have showed me where the leak was.

It's the one where the crank vent regulator valve (pancake valve) connects to the turbo inlet pipe at the intake. Here is a pic of mine with a plug inserted.

yes you need to disconnect the PCV or you will blow air out of the oil cap on the block and the dipstick and your car will smoke for a good 5-10 min

thanks. lol i wish i heard about that one earlier. i freaked out at first thinking my rings were shot and i was leaking boost into teh crank. but then i realized it is running too smooth for that to happen lol. thanks.

so i just plug that and test it as much as i feel fit? (within reason)
