Buying new car, need advice~!

Hey guys, I'm looking into getting a used (2002-2004) A4 and was just wondering if the 3.0 or 1.8T engine is right for me? I was pretty decided on the 3.0 because I heard the 1.8 was a little underpowered, but then recently my friend told me that the 1.8 has a lot of mod potential. But will the mods void warrantee? I'm currently driving/selling a '98 M3... it's a great car and all, but I don't take advantage of the power and personally the interior of that car is lacking. I'd rather take a cruising car over speed anyday. But I still want some power for those times you want to pass up a car in front.

Also, could you guys please share your positive and negative experiences with the car? Reliability-wise, I've been reading a lot of mixed reviews. Some reports say that the A4 has a lot of mechanical problems, whereas some people report none. I've even read some people say that the seats are terrible? But please, I want to hear from all you dedicated owners.

Thanks~!!

RE: Buying new car, need advice~!

Well, I have a 2000 Avant Quattro 1.8t. Personally I love the car. I don't have much experience with the 3.0, but I can tell you that the 1.8t has many mods available. I have chipped it, put a larger turbo, changed the exhaust, put on a ceramic/kevlar clutch and put a better DV on it. As I have not had a dyno test done on it I'm not exactly sure how much HP I'm making but it's fun. I don't know what you can do with the 3.0. My experience has been great with my 1.8t, the only thing that I've had to do outside if the expected maintenance has been replacing the oil uptake sump screen. That happened at 107,000. The factory clutch lasted me until I put the bigger turbo in it, which was at 110,000. Aside from being a lot quicker, it drives just as well as it did the day I bought it. As for reliability, the 1.8t has a very good reputation. There were some issues with some of the 2.8's, but I'm not aware of anything with the 3.0. I'd just make sure it was quattro and a stick. Hope this helps.

repeat after me I love AUDI I will buy an AUDI
for the 3.0 you can get a supercharger for it but it will no doubt void your warrntee (not very discreet)
you could probly get around the warantee issue with a chipped 1.8T
