A/C display

so my Climate control display has been flashing on and off for the last few weeks and its getting really annoying. sometimes the display even goes completely out and i have to push on the edges of the unit to get the numbers and what not back. any ideas? i'm thinking maybe just a loose cable but i dunno. if so, how easy is it to take off center console cover and check the wiring? thanks guys.
BTW i have a '96 A4

Its really easy to get in behind it, just pull the trim off and i think pull the ash tray out and you should be able to get er out then, check all the plugs and what not and if its still doing it you may have a bad unit

Pulling the radio out will give you some acsess. Removing the trim and the screws holding on the module you can completly remove the module to check the wiring. Unfortunatly your syptoms usually indicate a faulty display on the module. In which case the entire module must be replaced at around 400 in parts.

RE: A/C display

Does anyone know the part number for the climate control unit? I have a 96 12v quattro and have been searching for it for a while with no luck. Is it possibly one of these?

8a0820043 e
8a0820043 d
8lo820043 b

Found those listed on an Ebay auction, but not sure what years they are for or if they'd fit my car. Anyone with a parts list that could help out? Also, any thoughts on where to locate these parts?
Thanks.

Joe

I don't know about the part numbers, but i do know this:

Go on e-bay and do a search on a climate control module for your 96' A4. (which was probably done already) I know for sure that one of the items that will come up is an ad for like $75 to send your module to be fixed. If there is, hop on it.

When i first bought my car i had the same problem and did just that. Theres a number you can call and set up shipping and all that ish. You actually send in down to Flordia, they fix it and make sure it works AND give you a 3-year warranty on the part incase it happens again. I have a 96' also and did this almost a year ago and have had no problems. Its definately the best deal, especially if you don't wanna spend the $400 to get a new one. It was like $75 and came out to around $100 w/ taxes + shipping & handling. Goodluck.
