Calling all 2.8 Tippy Drivers

I feel really goofy asking this question, but it's been eating at me when driving in tippy-mode.

What are your average rpm shift ranges for each gear, 1 thru 4? I "generally" do not push the rpms over 3,000 or so for each gear.I love the feel of 3rd gear and will push that gear a little harder, but ireally want to put my car through its paces without doing damage.

Here is my average shift range:

1st to 2nd -- 2100 rpm
2nd to 3rd-- 2800 rpm
3rd to4th -- 3 to 3500 rpm, sometimes push it to 4000
4th to 5th -- 2800 rpm

Am i babying my car too much? Call me a pu**y if you want; it's cool.

...and yes, i know i should have gotten a manual.

You're not even letting the engine get into its powerband.

I test drove the 2001 2.8 tiptronic that I might buy (assuming the tech inspection turns out OK) all weekend long.
Seemed effortless going up to about 6000rpm to shift in 1 and 2. You just have to shift sooner than you think because there's a slight delay.
Just let the engine warm up first before exploring the top third of the rpm range. Overhead cam engines are very happy at high rpm's.

Yea i figured i could push it more, but i just needed that "extra" reassurance. I guess i can take the training wheels off my B5 now. :D

I know about the delay....stupid thing. I'm probably going to invest in a tip-chip somewhere down the road. After i get my 30v GIAC, of course.

You really are babying it. The tip can handle it, its not like theres a powerful engine under the hood. Theres no power low in the rev range, and theres a flatspot above 5500 so whenever I'm pushing it I shift around 5k. For normal driving I shift at 3k. Third gear is too short, but you get the most pull there. I've noticed that under full throttle the trans will effortlessly shift at 6500 in auto but refuses to do so in tip mode. I gotta ease up off the gas for it to shift. Driving in tip also burns more gas, but then again thats when I'm driving hard.

Thanks Trey. I'm coming from a '92 camaro w/305, so i'm used to hearing and feeling power under the hood and knowing i have more. When i rev this 2.8 up and hear it screaming, i feel like sh*t is going to go flying through the hood at any minute.

I'll give her a workout tomorrow and tinker with the rpm ranges a little more.

Get rid of the stock intake and that scream will turn into a V6 growl. After 3k it sounds like it has balls but its all bark no bite, unfortunately...

Ever floored a stock M3? It sounds like a valve is about to literally fly through the hood lol

Yeah that flat spot above 5500 is kind of annoying... after that build in torque it kind of leaves you feeling blue-balled.

Still, it's not the kind of drama I'm used to with WOT so it doesn't sound like the engine is gonna blow up or anything...

HELL WITH SHIFTING!
It can do that on its own while in Tip mode. Goes higher into the RPM's too...starts to go into the red, but only barely, then shifts.
