CAR LOST POWER, CEL WENT ON AND MADE REALLY LOUD TICKING FROM ENGINE....PLEASE HELP =*(
alright i have a 99 a4 1.8t auto with triptronic. it has 135k on it. Today driving on the way home the car started to lose power, wouldnt accelerate, CEL went on, and this horrible sound from the motor came about. Its like a ticking sound that feels like also a rubbing sound. The sound goes along with rpm speeds. Im in GA now and its really an up and down hill road and I cant gain any speed going up hill and the car feels like crap.
When I pulled to the gas station though when I experienced the problem, checked oil level and it was in middle of L and H. So I added oil. ALso found out that there is this valve thing by the intake side thats connected with vaccuum hoses going to hard lines. Not sure what it was. It was burnt out and pretty much deteriorated. So I can suspect a boost leak there. I just went to a local parts store and got some T fittings and new hoses/clamps to get it closed up. Drove it home and made it luckily but now I need to fix this problem. Im scared if its something serious like a ENGINE PROBLEM or a TRANNY problem.
How do I find out codes? My dash screen is burnt out so I can't see anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated. If anyone in the South Atlanta area and wouldn't mind coming by to help me troubleshoot it, I would really appreciate it. Thanks guys in advance. Hope we can fix this.

Its best to pull over your car immediatly and turn it off when issues like this happen not keep on driving. Some parts stores like Autozone offer free error code readings. I sugges you get the codes there and then refer to this site which has the fault codes for your car:

I am sorry to hear about your car... but on a side note, I have a CEL on and when you go to autozone are you supposed to say som BS or just ask them to check it for free?
update....i disconnected the negative terminal on the battery last nite to reset ecu. I connected it back up today and now the car wont start. Just cranks and cranks. I really need to get some codes scanned. Any ideas? Also I was wondering, I was searching and reading last nite and I think the "air valve" that went out on me is called the n75. Not sure if im correct or not but if thats it, would me just using a T fittling and directly connecting the lines have something to do with no power also?
Im all out of ideas at this moment and any suggestions would really help me. Someone please enlighten me

no doesnt sound like the N75 its not something you would see right away under the hood. and its not connected to any hard lines. I think thats a breather valve you are talking about. and i think your oil pump might be shot. my brothers did the same exact thing. and he burnt his motor by driving on it. either way loud ticking and noticeable power problems are bad... real bad!
i know...its not good...the car wont start now and im not sure if the motor is done for....im all frustrated...any other ideas? anyone?
It is hard to tell without getting the codes. The fact that your dash warning lights are burned out makes it possible that you lost oil pressure and you didn't see the warning light come on.
It is also possible that this is just due to a boost leak.
check the vagcom locator link in the useful links section for someone in Atlanta who might be able to help you out and pull codes

ok guys UPDATE....
I went to autozone and ended up buying a actron obd2 scanner. I pulled codes and here are the results:
I only got 2 codes that came out.
1)P1136 - Manufacturer fuel and air metering
2)P1138- Manufacturer controlled ignition or misfire control
ALSO...I tried cranking the car up again and the RPM needle do not even move. Not sure if this means anything or not.
PLEASE ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED.
I will also snap some pics of the area that was burnt out.
Hope to hear from any of you guys soon. Thanks in advance.
