Default Car starts then turns off A4 B5 1.8

Ok well im having another issue. Occasionally when i go to start the car it will start then after about 2 seconds it will turn off, i'll try again and it will either do the same thing once more or start normally and run fine.
Any ideas?
I have noticed something else a little strange, occasionally when i start the car i dont have any dash lights or indicators or headlights. if i move the key in the ignition slightly all of a sudden everything comes back on, related?

Cheers

Hi,

ever since I had my car chipped (APR/Oettinger) my car has been a bit funny to start, prob only when its cold. like it starts then dies, runs really rough and on about the 2nd or 3rd time it starts andsoon runs smoother. Maybe is something besides the chip?

i dont think the problem im experiencing is cold start related. It seems to do it whenever it feels like it, but dosent effect the way the car drives or anything.

hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm ?

Easy, when the key flips back to the "on" position from the "start" position, the ignition isn't making contact, and turns the engine off.

1 plus for the worn ignition switch. However, just for "***** and giggles" try spraying some contact cleaner and lubricant in the ignition. (eg TV tuner cleaner from Radio shack). It is cheap, can't hurt, and may help.

cool thanks for the explanation. I'll give the contact cleaner a go, failing that i'll look for a new ignition switch. Anyone know if there is a "how to" for this?

cheers

cheers thanks for reply, infact my temp guage doesn't work either, thought it might have just been the guage, but now looks like could be sensor.

I mightalsoget some extra power with the temp sensor fixed - yay!
