Changing Control Arms
Thinking about changing the control arms (both upper and lower) in my 2000 2.8L
I think they are starting to squeek, the car is like 90k and is still on stock control arms. Does anyone recommend any particular set? Around the forum, people seem to recommend upgraded Meyle, but I just wanna be sure before saying goodbye to 500+ dls. Does anyone have meyle control arms installed? And if so, do you notice any difference from stock or is there any problem that you came across after changing to meyle? Thanks in advance for any suggestion! |

Couldnt tell you how the aftermarket arms perform or fit as ive never used them. This is one of few ocassions where ill say go with something other than oem thou. The factory arms are garbage. They seem to fail on to regular of a basis, so the aftermarket ones couldnt really be any worse.

meyle should last longer, but there will be no performance differences.

$449 seems like a lot but the mechanic I use quoted me $129 apiece for the upper fronts not including labor. So you got a lot more for the money with that kit.

damn 129 thats cheap. i believe the kit he is looking at includes everything. upper lower control arms, sway bar links, TREs and all the hardware.

Yeah thats the one - All 8 control arms, 2 tie end rods and 2 sway bar links for that $449.
Its made by Febi, made in Germany so I would imagine they are pretty decent. The same kit is also sold by Pure Motorsports. |

Febi/ Bilstein is a very good brand for all suspension parts.

I used the Meyle kit from getcoolparts. It includes everything, and works just fine. Comparing the parts to stock, the Meyle's were definitly beefier in several areas. Had them on a couple of months now, feel fine.
As for the install... @!#$%^&*())&^%#$%^$^)*&)(&$. Once I figured out all the little tricks on the right side, the left was cut by about 2/3rds time wise. It's really not that bad, it's just all the things you have to move/remove to get it done, a lot of which isn't mentioned in themanual. The "Devil Bolt" was not, the trick is use a jack to unload the suspension, comes right out. Just play with the height till it all lines up just right, taps right out. |

Both Febi and Meyle are good quality replacements for the control arms.
