Check engine light...
I was driving when all of a sudden the check engine light came on. Now, when I bought the car in June, the light was on. It was checked by VAG or whatever and it was for an O2 sensor. The light turned off like 3 weeks after. Has been off since. Car has 113 K on it, probably same thing right?
What is O2 sensor for, do I really need to change it since we don't have emissions in CT right now?
Thanks in advance

IF it is your O2 sensor yes it needs to be replaced its primary 'goal' is not for emission but so that your motor runs efficiently. You could have decreased gas mileage could be burning rich or a number of things. Def something you dont want to do. Plus driving an Audi around with the CEL on is not cool.
I might have had the same problem on my 2.8. When I read out the error code it refered to the o2 sensor. All it was that my wife had used the 87 instead of 93. I also had the problem again when i used the new shell , i forgot, something that supposedly cleaned your engine. It triggered the same code. Could that have been it????
Thats very interesting, thats the only thing I use, that new Shell 93 gas with some cleaning additives. The only thing is I've been using it for a while before the light came on. Anyone else hear about something like that?
Also, where should i get this sensor, from dealer or what?

Definitely not the dealer. Check online. I got mine here. Oxygen Sensors I forget, which engine do you have?
I am very leary about the gas with 'cleaners' and gas the mysteriously will improve gas mileage.......I have a way to improve mileage per dollar. Give me the gas price i had when i first started driving.
i wouldn't take the risk of just assuming its the O2 sensor. With 113K miles it could be anything. I'm not saying your car is in bad shape but i would reccomend taking it in to a shop and having them check it over. Its really not worth risking unless your positive it is setting off the specific code for the O2 sensor.
