check engine light codes
hey guys,
just bought a 99 A4 for a DD. the check engine light came on about 10 mins ago
and i my Q is i need to know if there is a way that i can pul the codes my self with out buying a
tool.
i know on my rx-7 that i ground out one of the plugs in the diagnostic's box
just wondering if there is a simailar way to do this on a audi
p.s
i tryed searching but nothing matched my Q

u can go to autozone they should have the tools or the stealership (dealership)
i say try autozone first, i dont think they have the traditional VAG-COM that AUDI uses but they should be able to draw some kind of code and see what the problem is though

my buddy (audi mechanic) told me that's there's no way to pull the codes w/o a vag-com or obdII reader
obdII's run for about 40 to 300 depending on the model
saw one on ebay for 40 - VW Audi OBD2 OBDII OBD 2/II Trouble Code Reader Scanner

autozone has a loaner tool that you can use for free...and you actually can get some of the codes without using an obd2 reader, through the climate control.....
