coolant leak
found my coolant leak.. it is coming from the back of the motor where the neck is, it looks like the gasket is no good, saw some coolant on the tranny looks like the owner b4 me had them put some of that leak crap in it but never fixed the leak, going to have to buy a new gasket.. its a very very slow leak.... dam.. what a pain..
Johnny bravo . i have the same problem as u oprviously had. My coolant is leaking out the back of the engine onto my tranny. Can you give me some info on what and how to fix this problem if it is similar to yours?| that would be great thanks bro.
Buy the whole flange(black plastic thing)which comes with the o-ring gaskets (2). The whole thing is like $30 at the stealer. According to my Audi stealer the flange that attaches to the head and receives one coolant hose has a tendency to warp, so you are much safer if you replace the whole thing not just tthe o-ring.
I have had a go around with this and the stealer. Last time they would not sell me one of the two o-rings, said you cannot buy one by itself so you are almost forced to buy the whole thing which actually is not a bad idea anyway. Then last time I went one of the parts guys did sell me just the o-rings. So go figure.
Its a pretty easy fix-let loose of some coolant unless you dont care if it spills-remove 2 bolts on head and two at hose-keep an eye on their orienation and locationso you wont have to figure it out later (there are some additional holes on the head that may throw you off when you are putting it back in)-keep a retriever magnet handy or watch u dont drop the little bolts because that is where u may spend a bunch of time. Bolt back in and bleed system.
Now ur done and u can patiently wait until it warps again.
