Default coolant leak

I am wondering what is at the back of the motor that can leak coolant. The reason I ask is because I noticed to day that on the back of the head there was like a thick coolant goop. I do not think it is the head gasket as there is no loss in performance and it appears to dripping from somewhere above. The car is a 2001.5 1.8TQM with 95000 on the clock.

sounds like the coolant flange to me. at least thats what it is in my car. it right at the back of the motor and usually drips down the back of the cylinder head and will drip onto the tranny.

You need to replace the O-ring on the coolant flange, or just replace the entire flange with the O-ring that comes with it.
