Default Coolant Temp Sensor on 51 plate A4 2.0

Hi All,

My first post so hello to everyone!

Apologies if this is a stupid question but I have honestly been searching around for a few days now but am struggling to find the info. I am either blind, rubbish at searching or its not there!

Anyway, 2 weeks ago I bought an Audi A4 2.0 51 plate and the other day the engine management light came on I have noticed that the coolant gauge flicks up to 90 but then flicks back down to 0 erratically so assume that this is the possible cause of the problem having read about it on this forum. My problem is I cannot find a service manual for this year anywhere and don't know where the sensor is located. I've had a look around the same area it is mentioned in the tech articles on the subject but am unsure if they apply to my model and year, most seem to deal with the 1.8t or 2.8.

I am damned if I am taking it into the Audi Dealer if I don't have to as people on the forum have mentioned its a fairly quick and easy job. Its got to be easier than working on my Clio 1.8 16v...its a bitch to get to anything in that engine bay!

My next question is where is the cheapest place in the UK or online to purchase a VAG-COM as being a bit of a car DIYist I think I will probably need one.

Thanks
Toby

If you're under warranty, take it to the dealer. They'll reset the CEL.

Hi CRAZYHAWK,

I doubt its still under warranty being a 51 plate which is 2001. I think that the warranty is only for 3 years. Also would resetting the CEL? fix the problem or just get rid of the engine managment warning light? Sorry, maybe a stupid question but I am new to AUDI's and all this pro-active warning systems. I'm used to the car just dying on me or a nasty surprise when it comes to service time.

Thanks
