Default cruise control

Yeah so ive had my car for about 4 months now and when i bought it the cruise control didnt work. At that point in time it didnt bother me but in the near future im going to have to drive for longer periods of time, and having it working would be nice. Any ideas why it isnt working? Everything else in the car runs fine and functions properly. Thanks

cc is a problem on these cars. everyone i know has a prob with the cruise control. It is most probably the switch on the steering column. That is the most common culprit.

however, make sure your brake light bulbs and fuses are all working correctly because they can cause the cc to not work.

other possibilities are the brake and/or clutch pedal switch, but most probably not.

+1 on CC stalk - thats what it was in my 98.5
other possibilies
the cruise uses a vacuum system - possible leak
Cruise control module - behind the glove box - is a know failure
best thing to do with this is take is to a euro mechanic and have them test the systems - otherwise you might replace a few things before you find the problem. Have them find the problem - then come back here and tell us and we will help you do it yourself. save you $$ on parts and labor

Knock on wood, I just fixed mine the other day. After extensive checking of all the systems (vac and switches) I determined it was a control module problem. I had it apart and hanging down where the glove box is while I was driving and flicked the circuit board until I was able to get it to set. Then while it was working I pressed on the circuit board until I found the general area that was giving me the problem. I resoldered that area and it's been working ever since. New (used) CCM on ebay go for around $70.

yep the module under the dash does also go bad. i sent mine to these folks on e-bay. they check it and repair if neccessary. if ok you just pay shipping. i hope these f----ers are telling the truth, they said mine was ok. do an e-bay search for audi cruise.
also there is a great write up on the column switch. sorry i cant remember which forum either here or audizine.com.

ECS tuning has the switch for $130-140 depending on if your car was made early in 98 or later. There is a great write-up on audiworld on how to fix/replace the column switch, it only takes about a half hour if you have the right tools. The write-up says you need a torx bit to remove the steering wheel, but mine was a 12 point bit, which you can buy at autozone pretty cheap.
