Default Curtain Air Bags

Last weekend I hit the curb with my right rear tire and ended up kind of spinning out. The passenger side curtain air bags, as well as the passenger side torso air bag, deployed. Other than that there was no real damage to the car, just needs a front end alignment and a new tire (other one was flat).

I took to the car to the dealer and was informed that installing a new curtain air bag, as well as a torso air bag, would cost ~4,000 dollars. I am in no way willing to pay this, so I was wondering if this was a job I could do myself (and how much it might cost), or if not how easy it is to simply remove the two air bags? I realize that they increase safety but they are in no way worth 4,000 dollars to me so I'd just as soon uninstall the two and move forward from there (assuming that not having those won't affect the functioning of any of the other air bags).

Thanks for the help!
