custom metal boser in 3 days... 56k no go zone.
Emergency custom fabrication
Well, you've gotta love emergency fabrication sessions
Anyway, to make a long story short, my Carbon Fiber hood flew off and shattered last tuesday, my car was required by my sponsors to be at their booth that next weekend for H2o.,,,, What to do, what to do...
Well, What I did was called up my buddy at DTR racing and we Fabbed up and painted a custom metal boser hood in a matter of 3 days. Now thats 3 days STRAIGHT neither of us slept for more than a 3-4 hours that entire time. I have nothing but praise for Mike @ DTR after this enormous effort and we managed to get the car to h2o and in Unitronics booth looking better than ever!
Here are some pics of the process.
In the dealership parking lot after the hood blew up on i-95

Hood was replaced in the parking lot

Fabrication starts

Some grinding

Some more welding

Some more grinding

Now the fun stuff, icing applied

Some sanding

More icing

Basic shapes done, mean as hell with the lights on

Cruising to the paint shop

Prepping for paint

Primer being applied

Test fit

Prep for primer on top surface

Primed and now being sanded AGAIN

finally base color coat applied and now being taped up for center color

Final product pre-wet sanding

Finished hood pre-wetsanding on the car

And the car with the new bumper and hood fitted and almost ready for show.

there was a small stress fracture in the rad support from the side impact of an accident a few weeks earlier. It ended up that the rad support material around the hood latch gave and the latch along with the section of rad support holding it in were ripped out...
Yeah, it damaged the roof and rear pillar when it shattered, we fixed that in the 3 day period as well as the initial accident damage on the front fender and drivers door
... Was a busy few days.
Black roof as well as ALOT of other goodies on the way.. just ran out of time before the show so this is what we ended up with at that point.
