AudiCross 02-26-2007 02:51 AM

RE: Cutout?

you could make your own. make it either u crawn under the car and cap it or run a simple setup to a hand lever inside your car.

b.hasz 02-27-2007 02:14 AM

RE: Cutout?

ok, but why would i want a cap on it?

BadLuckAudi 02-27-2007 02:20 AM

RE: Cutout?

he means like one thats capped off and you have to take the cap off when you want to run open like alot of street strip muscle cars run, ya know with like 3 wing nuts holding the caps on

RE: Cutout?

oh yea i know youd have to have cap for it and all, but what would happen if i just ran it open all the time, would it just be really loud and i might get in trouble for it or what?

BadLuckAudi 02-27-2007 02:52 AM

RE: Cutout?

it would be really loud thats about it... well and it would pop and back fire while downshifting

Jeff 02-27-2007 02:54 AM

RE: Cutout?

that would be loud. and you will probably get pulled over

b.hasz 02-27-2007 02:55 AM

RE: Cutout?

so i should not down shift with it open, just like put the car in nuetral and slow down. also what is the size of a stock 01 a4 exhaust

98A4TQ 02-27-2007 02:59 AM

RE: Cutout?

what's the increase of power with something like that installed.

Jeff 02-27-2007 02:59 AM

RE: Cutout?

no it will happen as the rev's fall down. it happend to me all the time and i had a muffler. when i did the straight pipe it was intense. loved it but father hated it

b.hasz 02-27-2007 03:01 AM

RE: Cutout?

ya i know i might get pulled over, but wouldn't it work to just dis connect the exhaust from the muffler thats essentially what the cutout does, but this would be free. i did it on my explorer lol

Jeff 02-27-2007 03:03 AM

RE: Cutout?

well that cut out you would put just after the dp. that way it dosent have to take all those bends and it could exit quicker. just removing the muffler would still make the exhaust travel a long ways through lots of bends and a small pipe

b.hasz 02-27-2007 03:07 AM

RE: Cutout?

but how much power would i get form an cut out and how much form just disconnecting the exhaust earlier

Andyrew 02-27-2007 03:15 AM

RE: Cutout?

There wouldnt be a whole heck of a lot of power increase, maybe 5-10hp on a turbocharged car, also noticable would be the boost spooling up earlyer.

And you only want a 3in cutout if you have a 3in exhaust..

BUT I am a firm believer that all exhausts should have cutouts... for race days.. 3 twists of the bolts and your good for some Goooood music. Its so much easyer than pulling the exhaust.

ya backfire will happen mid rpms' on down when on decel.

Jeff 02-27-2007 03:17 AM

RE: Cutout?

you could just get a really good flowing 3" exhaust and your problem is solved. you have the power all the time. no need to crawl under the car.

b.hasz 02-27-2007 03:20 AM

RE: Cutout?

haha well my buddy stole something off my old car so hes buyin me manuel cut out and is the backfiring bad, and what size should i get... will the 3 inch of this one work? http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...61547_-1_11529

b.hasz 02-27-2007 03:29 AM

RE: Cutout?

also the cutout goes before the catalit converter right?

Jeff 02-27-2007 03:51 AM

RE: Cutout?

it should but your cat is right after the turbo so you have no room to do it before. thats y im saying get a full exhaust

aRIf 02-27-2007 04:06 AM

RE: Cutout?

ur at red light and a wrx stop next to you. He looks at you so bad and you ready to race. then you remember! and tell him hold on. He looked at you and try to understand why you're going under the carduring red light. in the mean time, you also pray to god to not turn the light to green. you get your rench and take the 3 bolds out so you can have some extra power at high end.

the time you get out under the car, you see 2 cops next to you and asking you "why r u working under your car middle of the road" then he says " we get you tow truck so don't worry son, we'll take care of you"

or

just get 3" turbo back like other says... I have 3" can't be happier more.

"If extra power is not handy when u wanna race, it is useless"

BadLuckAudi 02-27-2007 04:11 AM

RE: Cutout?

theres not alot of extra power thats gunna come man, and it goes right at the dp you cant do it before the cat

b.hasz 02-27-2007 04:18 AM

RE: Cutout?

well someone is buyin it for me so i might as well

aRIf 02-27-2007 04:23 AM

RE: Cutout?

Pointless
If 10-20hp extra is what youre looking for, get a high flow cat or test pipe. Youll spend le$$ and get more power gains, even while retaining the stock exhaust. If you got a cut out, there would be no point in bolting it up with the stock exhuast, and even then, its the cat that ismainlyrestricting exhuast flow.
