The dealership solved my problem with this issue
I have had this issue for a little while now with my 2011 A4 avant with 25k on the odometer. My car also had a little hiccup when accelerating between 50-60km/h, I complained about this issue a couple of times before it was solved. The first time, they told me to use only gasoline from Shell or Petro Canada, since other gas stations had inferior gas. I thought that was a cop-out answer. the second time they said they updated the software, but the problem still persisted.
On my third attempt, I took it to another Audi dealership in my city and they sent out the shop foreman to drive my car with me to diagnose the issue. He detected it right away and confirmed there was a problem. They kept my car for a few days trying to diagnose the issue and could not come up with a solution. The ultimate solution was to do a full transmission change. They kept my car to three days to replace the transmission completely. It was a really big job and the service representative explained to me that they essentially had to take the entire bottom off the car. I know that does not sound good and I was not impressed that my car of less than two years required such extensive work. Thankfully it occurred while I am still under the warranty. I had had my car back for about a month now and everything is smooth as can be.

Interesting that the dealership was not part of the problem; my 2011 A4 has had similar problems but waited until out of warranty (47K) for Reverse gear failure. This is about 60 days after the dealership "corrected" my excessive oil consumption by disabling the "low oil" indicator. Anyone want to buy a 2011 A4 Avant Premier Plus with 47K miles. The BMW Series 3 wagon handles much better if I'm to risk another Bavarian ride, but the Japanese vehicles really do have greater mortality!
