Did local Audi service cheat me? - A4 2.8L Power Steering part
Re: 1998 A4 2.8L, built April 1997
Audi service charged me to replace my power steering pump claiming the part # in the car was incorrect.
Had: 8D0145156
New: 8D0145156F
Audi corporate customer care told me that the pump I had was factory installed. I asked local service for a refund. Local service called corporate, who called me and said they should not have told me what they did. Period.
Can someone PLEASE tell me if you have or have worked on an 1998 Audi A4 2.8L with the non-"F" part number power steering pump!!!?
It is best to look in a real car, the online parts systems all say it should be "F" but I believe early productions used the non-"F" and such was ok (My car, built in 1997, worked for 10 years with the non-"F" part stamped with 1997 on it.)
Audi service says someone changed my pump, installing the wrong one, without telling me ($875 with 4+ hours labor).
Thank you, Brian

Audi corporate customer care told me that the pump I had was factory installed. the fact is they did tell you and why did they change the part when there was nothing wrong with it??,
the car went in for a service not a rebuild they should give you your money back or ask them to refit the other one for free since you didn't give them any instruction to do what they want

the "F" just denotes a new/better design that can be used as old - they were wrong and should have known that. If they claim it is the wrong one then have them tell you what car that one was supposed to be installed in.
