Default Difference in 2003 and 2005 models

Hello All,

I'm stuck in trying to make a decision between buying a used 2003 A4 and a 2005 A4. The price is not an object as both are within my price
range. The 2003 A4 has about 20000 miles on it and the 2005 A4 has 40000 miles on it. I haven't seen the cars yet as they are both out of town but
I'm leaning towards the 05 as I suspect there would be newer features in it. Would you guys please help with with some of the pros and cons
between these 2 models? Do you know if there are any prominent differences between them and also since the 05 has 40000 miles on it in
just a year i know it has to be all highway miles. Any help/insight/advice on this matter will be highly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
abizone

Hey,
The only real dif. is gonna be the price. And the 03' has lower miles? 05' might have a nice ring to it but ain't nobody gonna know. I say go with the 03' but your call.

check out Cars.com and you can review the options and standard packages for both - are they both 1.8's or is the 05 the 2.0? or are they the 6 cylinders? you can do more with turbo models in terms of mods... I have on 03 and was given the 05 2.0T to drive for two weeks while mine was in the shop - nice, but not stupendouly nicer. The leather was a little nicer - and the 6 speed was okay. Otherwise it was mostly the same with some options that if I'd have owned it would not have used - the extra power in the 2.0's is easily attainable (and surpasable - is that a word?) w/ chip/ exhaust on the 03. My 03 came with 20K and I've had no problems. 40K on an 05 is suspicious - that's alot of miles on a new-ish car - almost off warranty.

Thank you all for your insights. It almost seems that the 05 doesnt really have too much extra that the 03 cant offer from your comments. Fuche, the 05 is also a 1.8T. The only difference in the technical specs I've noticed so far is that the 05 has the 6 speed instead of the 5speed that the 03 has.
Would that make a big differnce in performance? You do have a very good point in that 40,000 miles is an awful lot for a 1 yr old car. They both
have the sports package and the 05 does not have the ultra sports package. The fact that the 03 has half the amount of miles is what's most alluring to me. Fuche, you did mention something about the extra features you found in the 05 during the 2 weeks you had it. Can you please ellaborate on what some of them were? Once again, I really apprecaite all you guys' inputs. This has really helped me out more than I had imagined.

Not all 05's have 6spd either. I think (could be wrong) only the USP had 6spd.

Thats alot of miles for an 05. If it's in your price range, stay with dealer purchases and certified pre-owned. The extened warranty is def nice to have.
