Hey guys, guess this is my first post. I recently got a 2002 Audi A4 1.8T Quattro. Its been working fine but now i have this very annoying problem. The front driver side door will not open from either the inside or othe outside. It got cold here yesterday so when i came down to the car after work, i did have to pull harder than usual to open the door. It wasnt too hard though and i attributed it to the cold and thought nothing of it. I went around to do some errands and the door worked fine....however when i got home i couldnt open the door from the inside, and when i tried to open it from the outside it wouldnt open either. when i unlock the doors i can hear the mechanism unlocking, but when i pull the handle nothing happens (inside and out). Could the mechanism be jammed or something? It seems to be difficult to take off the door panel since i cant figure out a way to open the door at all. Is it possible to just remove the handle and check if something broke or is out of place? Any advice on opening the door? Thanks.

 

The door latch is a large mechanical/electrical unit, both the outside and inside door cables are attached to it so more than likely it has some problems. If its intermittent then there is an electrical problem with the latch, you need a new one.

 

If thats the case it doesnt sound good. Any idea how much it would cost to repair?

 

$300+ for the latch, 2+ hours of labor.

 

Could it be something else? It feels more mechanical than electrical. when i unlock it with the remote i hear the door unlock. Its just that when i pull the handle nothing happens. I dont feel that little bit of resistance you feel when the latch is opened. Maybe the cable broke or is out of place?

 

There are two seperate cables, fat fvcking chance both of them broke at the exact same time. Plus you said sometimes it works!
Trust me if you saw the latch you would understand, you need a new latch.
