Default downpipe vs. testpipe

hey guys right now i have a greddy exhaust system, but still have the stock downpipe. Im trying to figure out what the diff. between a downpipe and a test pipe if there is any. I really need the downpipe so i can really get the full potential out of my exhaust and by getting rid of the stock downpipe i think that is the best bet. So i guess my question is what should i do, or get

test pipe replaces cat. from front to backthe exhaust manifold -Turbo-Cat - DP - Resonator- Muffler
A lot of exhaust kits come with a dp and if one doesnt there arebiggeraftermarket ones to get.. So the test pipe and the down pipe are two different things.

I am really thinking about buying that testpipe for my b6 T quattro. This would be my first mod, is there anywhere I can find instructions for removing the cat, sensors, etc and installing the TP, sensors, etc?????

Intresting for a first mod. I would do some research before you start just putting random parts in your car man.

when you put a test pipe in your car is it still possible to pass emissions?

i doubt it, you'll want to get a downpipe and high flow cat. get it from techtonics.

it was one of my first mods... bought it cheap.. but it will cause a CEL.. you can put in spark plug anti foulers or i have a CNC machine block from wayne on the vortex but i still got a CEL light intermittently from it....i finally got my APR 1+ flash and they now have a TP file that keeps your CEL from coming on for that reason..

also imade about 9lbs ofboost without it and just at/under 11lbs with it.... less restriction maybe?

it certainly helps spool up and reduces EGTs and weight! the stock cat is heavy as hell! im sure it adds a few HP as well..

one company has a graph on a 2.0t that shows a TestPipe adding about 23 hp and 40+ ftlbs torque! i think thats a little far fetched but i dont know much about the new 2.0fsi engines

get a downpipe way beofre you get a testpipe. i hear of people with stock exaust and testpipes and i cringe! y make your car illigal when you could haev the same gains, sund better and be legal. if you haev stock exaust and get a testpipe, sure you lose some restriction, bt the stock downpipe adn exaust is horribly restrictive. just as a rule of thumb, get the legal mods before you start screwing up the emissions. its pointless to go the other way around.
